Benefits of an Indoor Herb Garden

Even if you live in an apartment, or simply not available space or a big yard, you can still get fresh herbs by growing an herb garden. There is nothing better than a cook at the home of fresh herbs at your fingertips. Plus indoor gardens can be grown all year round, why are not affected by inclement weather or rapid temperature changes.

You can use the traditional system (or buy) your indoor herbs in containers, or you can choose hydroponicsgardening. Plants in containers is usually cheaper, but requires a bit 'of time and effort, and should be in a position to at least 4-6 hours of sun a day - usually on a south or west window if you live the northern hemisphere. If you do not have a place where the plants can get enough sunlight, you might consider growing a greater spectrum of incandescent light that plants need to survive and grow. Containers can be anythingpurchased from a pot (the pot is suitable for live plants), dried, old boots or even discarded toilets (cleaned of course).

Hydroponics is becoming increasingly popular and is a method of growing plants without soil and has been around for thousands of years. The growth is much faster than plants in soil, 50 percent in some cases and the yield is usually higher as well. Plants in a hydroponic system directly derive their water and nutrients to the rootsseveral times a day instead of on the ground looking for them. These plants also have fewer problems with insects, fungi and diseases and are generally healthier and happier, which use much less water. Whichever way you choose, you are sure to have fresh herbs.

There are several advantages (and disadvantages) to grow a herb garden.

Some advantages are:

The plants are protected from bad weather
* Easily accessible and easy
* Can beyear grown in any season
* The plants help to keep indoor air cleaner
* Easy to move to shaded area as the sun is too hot
* Insects and fungi are easier to control
* Requires less fertilizer, if necessary
* No bird net
* No need for weed control
* No need for gardening tools such as hoes, rakes, shovels, etc.

Disadvantages include:

* Less production yields, however, use a larger hydroponicincome.
* They must ensure adequate lighting, either alone or HID grow lights when sunlight is not enough
* Less than growing space, depending on your accommodation covered, could mean less choice
* More difficult to correct fertilization often results in fertilizer to maintain
* Proper irrigation may be more difficult because the soil was not to change or dehydration, which can result in too much water and root rot.
* I have heard some say that there is less taste,but I did not notice.
